According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the demand for freshwater in the world is constantly increasing due to population growth, urbanization and the increase in per capita water consumption. About 70% of the world’s water demand is met by agricultural irrigation, while 20% is used for domestic and industrial purposes.

The demand for freshwater is estimated to increase by 55% by 2050 due to population growth and increased per capita consumption. This increase in demand will put additional pressure on available freshwater resources and could lead to potential conflicts over access to water.

It is important to note that access to freshwater is a basic human right and efforts must be made to ensure that all people have access to clean and safe water. This can be achieved through sustainable management of water resources, including the use of alternative technologies such as those we propose to produce fresh water from karst resurgence in the sea.

OUR CORE TECHNOLOGY

Karst resurgences are freshwater springs that appear at the seashore, most often in areas where karst (a type of limestone terrain) is present. These springs are the result of the flow of fresh water from underlying aquifers to the sea surface. Until now, no one has been able to capture this fresh water and make it accessible to humans. This source represents billions of cubic meters of fresh water, which are lost to the sea every year in the Mediterranean Sea alone.
